My Facebook status update on Monday April 12:
Oxfam Trailwalker summary: * 12 blisters and 1 drilled toenail - painful * sleep deprivation and aching muscles - hard work * sense of achievement and comraderie? priceless!!
7am on Saturday 10 April: Team Victorious ready to go!
Let the fun begin...
Surrounded by other teams during the first few kilometres
Stunning morning light
At Huka Falls - 10 km in was reason enough for cheesy smiles :-)
Huka Falls
More amazing scenery at Craters of the Moon
Our AWESOME support crew taking care of us at checkpoint 1
Off on leg 2...
... where we celebrated climbing a steep hill in record time
God bless Oxfam for putting inspirational quotes along the way ;-)
Lake Taupo
Monique & I deliriously happy at the sight of the 40km marker
A bit of a rest to tend to our rapidly expanding blisters
Sunset at Kinloch Marina - checkpoint 3
Leaving checkpoint 3 around 7pm to head into the looong night
Hoorah, the 50km mark has been reached & it even had a celebratory hat!
Early morning frost
At the 75km we were looking a bit worse for wear, but we had been walking through the very chilly Taupo night after all...
I wasn't in great spirits after many hours of pain because of blood trapped under my toenail. Solution? The jandal - shoe combo, a new trend!
Luckily we left checkpoint 6 at 11am in better shape than when we arrived. Only 20 km to go!

Walking along Lake Taupo for the final 10km
Each team was allowed to have one support person come along on one leg, and were fortunate that Vaughan joined us for the final 13km to act as our porter :-).
Julia and I on jandals for the final leg
Five minutes before the finish line we changed into our VUW t-shirts and wigs to make the end a bit more glamourous
YES, we made it!! It took 33 hours and 48 minutes but we did it together, woohoo!
Group hug
The day after (looking way too chipper considering our exhaustion & injuries!)
