It was exactly 12 months ago that Vaughan and I set foot again on New Zealand soil after two eventful years in Japan. We were penniless, homeless, jobless and in my case, even visa-less... The extraordinary hospitality & generosity of his parents pulled us through for almost 4 months, but for me it was nevertheless a pretty dark period, filled with worries & anxiety of what was to come. But my oh my, how different are things now!! Vaughan not only managed to finish his Master in Applied Linguistics but he has made a 360 degree career turn (with a bit of help from friends) and has moved from teaching to web development. I've taken a few twisty professional turns as well, first having two different jobs at Immigration NZ and now finally working in a development-related field at VUW. We've also had the good fortune of befriending several great people, are both involved in very fulfilling volunteer work, and will be moving to a 2-bedroom flat by the end of this month. So yep, life's pretty damn great at the moment - goes to show how much can change in a year :-)!
