Vaughan recently joined the world of digital cameras as he decided to replace his trusty SLR with a Canon EOS digital model. Hoorah for that! We now have no excuse left to not take photos regularly, although I've quickly discovered that the quality of my shots isn't necessary linked to how flash the camera is (damn...). Regardless, we got some good results during our trip in the South island so I'll let the images tell the tale of my favorite moments:
Seeing gorgeous autumn colours during the drive from Christchurch to Wanaka. Many trees in Wellington are evergreens so it's a treat to witness these shades of red, orange & brown.
Realising that our accommodation, Te Wanaka Lodge, had the coziest lounge room ever, complete with a heavenly fireplace and comfy couches. I could have sat there for days snuggled up with V. & some reading material.
Being spoiled even more that morning by the spectacular vista over Lake Wanaka, complete with the snowy Southern Alps in the background.
Checking out the local Cinema Paradiso, by far the coolest movie theatre I've ever seen (notice the car parked behind me!). Not only does the audience sit in second hand counches, but during intermission you can buy freshly made cookies in the cinema cafe. We need more of these independently-owned gems!
Heading to Queenstown on Sunday & swinging above Lake Wakatipu on a tire (it was just there...).
Learning more about the history of New Zealand's Chinese immigrants at Arrowtown's Chinese Miners Settlement, a reminder of the lifestyle and hardships the 3,500 Chinese miners endured during/after the gold rush.
