Paris, Je t' Aime

What better place than Paris for a couple to reunite after three weeks apart? On Tuesday July 24th, I picked up Vaughan from Charles de Gaulle airport and we settled into the Montparnasse area for four delightful days :-). During repeated visits to Paris in my teenage years I never bought into the 'City of Romance' myth, but my perception changed when I first took a boatride with Vaughan on the Seine in 2004, complete with the song "La Vie en Rose" in the background. Cheesy and touristy - no doubt about it. Utterly romantic - definitely! This time we stayed away from the main sightseeing spots and ventured to slightly lesser-known places. What a great city, despite the fact that a glass of Coke sets you back a staggering 4 euro's! We'll be back... Paris seen from a different angle. We took a ride in a ferris wheel next to the Tuileries Gardens and had an amazing view over the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre (see image below), Montmartre etc. Magnifique!

Both of us are very interested in medieval history so a stop at Musée de Cluny, the National Museum of the Middle Ages, was a must. Not only is it located in a spectacular 14th century abbey, but the collection itself is really worth seeing!I especially loved the rooms with Gothic illuminated stained glass windows, a brilliant way to let visitors appreciate the sophistication and style of these artworks.
