Lately the entries on this blog have consisted of very little text and heaps of photos, which was not really my intention at the outset. Phrasing things in a witty, interesting way can take time though, a commodity which I seem to have run out of lately. Or maybe my energy levels have just dropped so much because of this intense heat so every action takes twice as long! My brain seems to be desintegrating due to sticky sleepless nights and days spent in over-airconditioned buildings; not great as I have two essays due in two weeks and an immense e-mail backlog... Anyway, excellent times have been had here in the last 7 days, amongst them showing my friend Liesbeth around Fukuoka last Monday, checking out a traditional festival at 5am (!) on Saturday, meeting new Japanese friends and finally buying a yukata (summer kimono) with Yukino today! Photos of some of these events will be posted shortly, in between researching topics such as poverty and sustainable urbanisation. Mata ne (see you soon)!

Fukuoka fashion?? Only at the start of July, when men of all builds & ages don loincloths in preparation for the famous Yamakasa Festival. Quite a sight to behold... Stay tuned for pictures of the real thing!

Festivals are one of - if not the - best things in Japan. If you can try & get to some in smaller rural areas as there you really get to join in. Mind you bring a spare liver as you'll be piled with drink (be warned Mr Curd!).
Sympathies re the heat but I'd gladly exchange it for the southerlies in NZ. (PS don't feel too bad. The UK is getting more record temps - 35+)
