Winter pleasures

Experiencing winter in June, July & August still strikes me as bizarre and completely unnatural but this year, despite the miserable Wellington weather, I've managed to get through these months in a very enjoyable way. The comforts of winter so far have been:

  • starting the day with a steaming cup of lemon, honey & ginger
  • snuggling up on the couch with a blanket to watch scores of DVDs
  • eating LOADS of carbs (to keep up the body temperature...)!
  • spending a whole weekend indoors without feeling guilty
  • the Wellington Film Festival - a fantastic film fiesta held each July
  • being truly grateful for a sunny day
  • getting through the backlog of books I've stored since summer
  • having long conversations with friends in cozy cafes/teahouses/pubs
  • not having to worry about damaging sunrays
  • making plans for spring
  • ending each day with a mug of chilli hot chocolate :-)

What are some of your winter pleasures?

Hmmm, smiling over your claim that your NZ winter months are bizarre ... personally my Belgian summer months are truly bizarre and I've no idea how I've survived all these winter christmases without strawberries and new potatoes :)

Sounds like you have found truly lovely ways to get through the winter. Mine will be spent in Berlin so we'll see ...
